The figure shows the flow cytometry plots describing the phenotype of the leukemic precursors (CD34 positive, red line) and the rest of the blasts (CD34negative, black line) of two AML patients. The first patient at the top is characterized by leukemia cells that all carry the FLT3-ITD mutation while the second patient at the bottom is characterized by a FLT3-ITDmut subclone (red line) while the rest of the blasts are FLT3-wt. The immunophenotype we discovered associated with the FLT3-ITD mutation allows us to monitor the AML patients during the course of the disease with greater sensitivity than PCR
