El latín se propagó rápidamente en el Occidente romano, a pesar de que no existía una política lingüística activa dentro del imperio. Se han establecido muchos factores que contribuyeron a esta latinización. Este artículo investigará el papel del urbanismo utilizando la metodología de la sociolingüística, concretamente la geolingüística. El trabajo se centra en el conventus Pacensis, esta región dentro de la provincia de Lusitania es de interés debido a su ubicación periférica dentro del imperio y el bajo grado de urbanización.
