The complex formation between tartaric and molybdic acids in solution has been studied polerimetrically. The reaction is shown to be governed by an equilibrium of the type \(H_2MoO_4 + H_2T \rightleftharpoons H_2(MoO_3 T, H_2O)\) and the equilibrium constant \(K(=1.03 X 10^3)\) has been calculated. The reaction goes to completion when the concentration of one of the components is 4 times the other. The possible causes for exalted rotation and other peculiarities have been discussed and a probable constitution of the complex compound is given in keeping with the co-ordination theory of valency
