Oxidation of formic acid by manganic sulphate has been studied in 4M sulphuric acid. The reaction is of first order with respect to both the reactants. A number of salts have been round to retard the reaction. The rate determining steps arc the electron transfer processes. A free radical mechanism has been suggested which is quite in conformity with the observations
