Intelligent Multi-agent System Architecture

This document consists the deliverable D1.3, which describes the MAS4AI architecture that serves as the foundation for future work in the project. The architecture is synchronized with the reference architecture for Industry 4.0 (RAMI4.0) and considers other generic digital reference architectures. Furthermore, design principles for the MAS architecture in the manufacturing domain are given. In order to make the MAS4AI MAS architecture applicable to a large variety of manufacturing scenarios, it uses the concept of Holons as an abstraction to group multiple agents and to coordinate both control and information flow. This is formulated to be compatible with the definition of Industry 4.0 components. Also, it presents the concept of an Agent service description (ASD), which serves as an abstraction element between agents and the asset information shell of a holon. Also, additional information about machine learning (ML) capabilities and cloud connectors for the agents are given The document is structured in the following way. Section 2 gives a general overview of the selected reference architectures, which are worth to be considered in the MAS4AI project. Section 3 describes the MAS4AI high level structure. In section 4 the conceptual design of the MAS4AI architecture and the main design principals are discussed. After the description of the basic concept of the holon and its creation, information about used protocols and interaction patterns are given. The aim is to use generic I4.0 communication protocols for the communication and interaction between agents, holons and other assets. Section 5 gives the formal description of the MAS4AI reference architecture using the UML notation. In section 6 further steps, the components and utilized frameworks of the proposed architecture are developed and prototypically implemented in the test facilities. Section 7 concludes the deliverable
