Medetera exornata Tang, Wang & Yang, 2015, sp. nov.

Medetera exornata sp. nov. (Figs 1, 5– 7) Diagnosis. Head with posteroventral hairs brown to dark yellow. Antenna all yellow. (Fig. 1). Mid tibia without bristle. Epandrium with 1 long apical bristle; ventral surstylus with 1 brown stripe at middle; cercus ribbon–like, only slightly narrow at middle (Figs 6–7). Description. Male (Fig. 1). Body length 3.1 mm, wing length 3.5 mm. Head: vertex, frons and face dark metallic green, with gray pollinosity; eyes separated, face nearly parallel, width of face about 1.5 times as long as first flagellomere. Hairs and bristles on head black, postocular bristles black and posteroventral hairs brown to dark yellow, postocular bristles long, strong. Antenna all yellow; first flagellomere yellow pubescent; arista apical, brown, thinly black pubescent, nearly bare, basal segment less than 0.1 times as long as apical segment (Fig. 5). Proboscis long and wide, yellow, brownish at margin, with several wide radial brown stripes, with some short pale apical hairs; palpus black, with 1 brown bristle and 2 brown apical hairs. Thorax dark metallic green, with grey pollinosity. Hairs and bristles on thorax black except acr dark yellow. Propleuron with 2 black bristles; 6 pairs of dc, decreasing in size anteriorly, 5 pairs of regular acr at anterior portion. Scutellum with 2 pairs of sc, of which inner pair long, strong. Legs mainly yellow, but coxae dark brown, fore femur brownish at middle, mid and hind femora brown except tip, tarsi lightly brownish. Hairs and bristles on legs mainly black. Fore coxa with 3 pale basal bristles and 3 apical bristles; mid coxa with row of 4 dorsal bristles, of which middle 2 strong; hind coxa with 1 outer bristle at middle. Fore trochanter with 3 weak preapical av; hind trochanter with 1 weak bristle at middle. Hind femur with 5 ventral and 1 apical bristle. Mid tibia without bristles. Hind tibia with 2 av. Relative length of tibia and 5 tarsomeres of legs LI: 3.0: 2.0: 1.0: 0.7: 0.3: 0.5; LII: 3.5: 2.0: 1.3: 1.0: 0.5: 0.5; LIII: 5.3: 1.4: 1.0: 0.5: 0.3: 0.4. Wing nearly hyaline, tinged brown; veins brown, R 4 + 5 and M 1 + 2 convergent apically. CuAx ratio 0.63. Squama pale with long pale hairs. Halter dark yellow. Abdomen dark metallic green with thin grey pollinosity. Segment 7 about 1.5 times as long as segment 6. Hairs brown on tergum, pale on sternum; bristles all black. Hypopygium (Figs 6–7): Mainly yellow except base and ventral portion brown. Hairs and bristles yellow to pale. Epandrium nearly pentagonal, distinctly longer than wide, with 1 long apical bristle; 2 digitiform epandrial lobes each with 1 long strong apical bristle. Surstylus fused basally; dorsal surstylus rounded at apex, with 4 short apical bristles; ventral surstylus with 1 brown stripe at middle, U–shaped apically, dorsal lobe with 1 short strong bristle and short hairs apically, ventral lobe with 1 strong bristle and 3 weak bristles apically. Cercus ribbon-like, dark brown, slightly narrow at middle, with long strong basodorsal bristles and some short weak marginal bristles, ventral margin with row of short weak bristles at apical 1 / 4 to 1 / 2, with 1 long dorsal bristle apically and short weak bristles preapically. Hypandrium wide and short, with rounded apex in ventral view. Phallus blunt apically. Female. Unknown. Type material. HOLOTYPE, ♂ labeled: China: Tibet, Nyingchi, Sejila mountain pass West (N 29 ° 57 '09.33", E 94 ° 48 ' 74.69 "), 3573 m, collected by Malaise trap in grass, 2012. VIII. 18–25, Baohai Wang and Zhaohui Pan (CAU). PARATYPES: 6 ♂, same data as holotype (CAU). Distribution. Oriental: China (Tibet). Remarks. The new species is very similar to M. stomias Bickel from Nepal, but may be separated from the latter by the colour and size of proboscis; the apical bristle of epandrium, as well as the shape of the surstylus and cercus. In M. stomias, the proboscis is dark brown with dark radial stripes, enlarged; the epandrium has no apical bristle, the surstylus is fused almost to the apex, with shallow apical cleft; the cercus is curved and narrowed distally (Bickel 1987, fig 17 e-g). Etymology.
