Department of Chemistry, Patna University, Patna-800 005 Manuscript received 29 March 1982, revised 23 November 1982, accepted 16 February 1983 Starting from [Pt(P\(\phi\)3)4], three new platinum(O) complexes, [Pt(P\(\phi\)3 )(ETU)(H2O)4], [Pt(P\(\phi\)3)(ETU)3] and [Pt(P\(\phi\)3)(ETU)5] have been prepared. Similarly, a new Rh(l) complex, [Rh(ETU)2(P\(\phi\)3)Cl].6H2O has been prepared from the complex [Rh(P\(\phi\) 3)2 Cl] in benzene medium. The oxidation states of the metal ions in these complexes have been checked by iodometric titration. Infrared spectra of the complexes, recorded in the range of 4000-200 cm-1, indicate that [Pt(P\(\phi\)3)(ETU)(H2O)4], [Pt(P\(\phi\)3)(ETU)5] may be octahedral, [Pt(P\(\phi\) )(ETU)3] may be tetrahed...
