EFFECTIVE USES OF SOCIAL MEDIA TOWARDS QUALITY NURSING EDUCATION: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Introduction: Social media has become an integral part of modern society, transforming the way people communicate and share information. In recent years, social media has gained significant popularity in the field of nursing education as a means of facilitating learning and enhancing the quality of education. Methods: This systematic review aimed to identify effective uses of social media in nursing education and its impact on the quality of education. A comprehensive search of literature published between 2018 and 2022 was conducted, yielding 20 relevant studies. The studies were critically appraised using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The studies were found to use a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram, for different purposes, such as communication, collaboration, education, and assessment. Results: The results of this systematic review demonstrate that social media can be effectively used in nursing education to promote communication and collaboration among students and instructors, provide a platform for sharing educational resources and materials, facilitate distance learning, and enhance the quality of education. The studies also showed that social media has a positive impact on student engagement, motivation, and performance. Conclusions: This systematic review highlights the potential of social media as an effective tool for promoting quality nursing education. Social media platforms provide an opportunity for innovative and interactive teaching methods that can be adapted to meet the needs of students in different learning environments. However, it is important for nursing educators to ensure that the use of social media in education is consistent with ethical and professional standards
