Flora-spray: A Sustainable Substitute of Chemical Mosquito Repellents

Abstract Conventional mosquito repellents are composed of chemical derivatives which are used in confrontation against Aedes, Anopheles, Culex, and as well as other vector species. Hence, these compounds have a detrimental effect on insects; they can cause critical health hazards to human health as well as domestic animals. On that occasion, a sustainable eco-friendly alternative is an urgent need. Our idea is to present a phytochemical-based flora-spray formulation that can effectively kill the mosquitoes as well as safe for domestic use. Prior experiment depicts that several plant-derived compounds like thymol, alkaloids, flavonoids, and other phenolics exhibit the larvicidal effects (growth inhibition, abnormalities in the reproductive system, and so on) of the disease-causing vectors. Moreover, these active plant ingredients have very lower or zero intervention in human health and household animals. It is noteworthy to convert the plant ingredient into a spray that can act as a sustainable tool for insect control and mitigate the disease burden
