Information Behavior in Researchers at the Institute of Political Studies of the University of Antioquia

Abstract The following study explores concepts related to factors involved in scholars´ information and seeking behavior and subjectivities researchers from Institute of Political Studies – IPS at the University of Antioquia, have to choose and select information, their sources and preferences and formats, print and digital. This study reveals IPS researchers, according their background and culture, are biased to use print sources, but, because of technological, social and working implications they are facing and using even more digital tools to find, retrieve and store information for their activities on a regular basis. They are aware of the advantages digital information can bring to their academic performance versus print information and they are using digital content and tools more often. Resumen El siguiente estudio explora factores relacionados con el comportamiento informacional de los investigadores del Instituto de Estudios Políticos de la Universidad de Antioquia y sus respectivas particularidades y preferencias al momento de buscar y seleccionar fuentes tanto impresas como digitales. Esta investigación revela cómo el comportamiento informacional de los investigadores del Instituto de Estudios Políticos está sesgado hacia los recursos impresos, debido a sus antecedentes y su cultura. Sin embargo, debido al incremento en el uso de herramientas tecnológicas, se han visto forzados a usar cada vez más estas herramientas para buscar, recuperar y almacenar información para sus actividades académicas regularmente. Los investigadores del Instituto de Estudios Políticos son conscientes de la importancia y bondades que otorga la información digital con respecto a la impresa y están empleando este tipo de contenidos de maneta mucho más frecuente dentro de sus actividades cotidianas
