Abstract: Background and Objective: Retinopathy is a common difficulty in diabetic subjects. Hyperglycemia damages the tissues through stimulation of oxidative stress and inflammation. Since the antioxidant function of garlic has been proven, in the current report the activity of aqueous garlic extract (AGE) upon the oxidative stress and inflammation in the retinal substances of rats with diabetes was investigated. Materials and Methods: 24 male Wistar rats were distributed in 4 groups: the healthy rats, the rats with diabetes (DM2),the garlic- treated rats with diabetes (DM2+AGE), and the garlic- treated healthy rats (AGE).
