The article deals with the expressions of metaphysical meanings in Ukrainian baroque lyaments and epitafions of the 17th century. The role of emotionality caused by the nature of genres by which authors address to existential universals such as the transcendence of the human soul, the essence of the world, the fluidity of life, fatality of fate etc are revealed in the article. It concerns the influence of the Orthodox Christian traditionin particular views on death and posthumous fate of the human soul.
