Gender Bias Against Women Accessing Health Care in the United States

Women in the United States face gender bias while seeking access to basic health care. Differences in care exist between men and women, which causes overall health decline. Gender bias also exists in the diagnosis and treatment options that are recommended to men and women, even though women are more proactive in the use of preventive care (Kent, 2012). Undergraduate students from California State University, Fullerton completed a survey about their demographics, external environment, personal health care practices and health status, and access to health care. This project examines the relationship between gender, race, and ethnicity bias. Strategies to prevent bias in the health care system are mentioned as well. The goal of this project is to test if there is a correlation between the differences in health care between men and women, and gender bias. The purpose of this study is to bring awareness to these differences in health care, and provide recommendations to reduce gender bias in the healthcare field. Since this research project is still in process, the results and conclusions will be presented at the conference in May 2023
