We report simple, efficient and one pot multicomponent protocol for the synthesis of 2,4,5-triphenyl-1H-imidazole derivatives via reaction of various aromatic aldehyde and benzill in the presence of catalytic amount of cellulose based cerium (IV) catalyst. CMC-CeIV was prepared by metathesis strategy and characterized by FT-IR techniques. The catalyst was recovered and reused for fivseveral cycles without considerable loss of activity. The advantages of the protocol include rapid reactions with good yields and simple workup. The synthesized compounds were characterized by FT- IR technique
