Synthetic and mechanistic aspects of reactions of complexed chromium(VI) compounds

Chromium(VI), in the form of in­organic dichromates, has long been used in organic chemistry as an oxidizing agent. However, due to its drastic nature and requirement of strong acidic solution, attempts have been made to develop mild, selective and efficient Crvl derivatives. Collin's and Corey's reagents were the first ones to be reported. Their discovery has led to an enhanced interest in field of organic derivatives of chromium(VI) as oxidizing agents. A large number of such derivatives have been reported. Most of them are reasonably stable, soluble in many organic solvents and convenient to use. Mechanistic studies of the reactions of the complexed Crvl reagents were first reported in 1978. Thereafter, much work in this field has been reported. The field of organic derivatives of Crvl is still receiving attention from different laboratories across the world. In this review, both the synthetic and mechanistic aspects of the chemistry of complexed CrVI compounds, have been brought into sharp focus
