Türkçe Öğretmeni Adaylarının Alfabe ve Heceleme Bilgilerinin İncelenmesi

The aim of this study, which was carried out in the document analysis, was to examine the alphabet- and spelling knowledge of Turkish teacher candidates. For this purpose, the alphabet and spelling knowledge of a total of 98 3rd- and 4th-grade students studying at Kafkas University and whether this knowledge differs according to the variables were examined. 37 (37.8%) of the students participating in the study were male and 61 (52.2%) were female. Participants were asked to write the alphabet in order to examine their knowledge of the alphabet, and the answers were received in written form. Eight words with different syllable structures were given as separate words for spelling information. Participants were asked to divide each word into syllables. Responses were received in writing. According to the findings of the study, only 29 (29.6%) of the students were able to do both the alphabet and spelling correctly and completely. 69 students (70.4%) had some kind of mistake or deficiency in the alphabet and/or spelling. While 21 pre-service teachers could not make it completely and/or correctly in the alphabet, this number was found to be 64 in spelling. Alphabet and spelling knowledge of teacher candidates did not differ significantly according to gender and grade level
