Meteosat Weather and climate monitoring from geostationary orbit

The Meteosat satellite service has surpassed all expectations raised during the development of the programme in the early 1970's. For over 30 years, Meteosat satellites of the first and now second generation have been delivering a continuous and reliable stream of data from their position 36,000km above the surface of the Earth.
