BRIDGING THE GAP: INCREASING EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE UTILIZATION AMONG EXPERIENCED NURSES

Evidence demonstrates that nurse engagement in evidence-based practice (EBP) results in improved patient outcomes and increased nurse satisfaction, yet many health care organizations struggle to support nurse participation in this work. A review of literature demonstrated that major barriers to EBP engagement include lack of time, EBP knowledge, and resources such as online databases, librarian assistance, and mentorship. The purpose of this project is to develop a one-year EBP Fellowship program for experienced nurses at an urban pediatric hospital. A curriculum was developed based on evidence and organizational needs, and program guidelines, outcomes, application, and budget were developed to support program implementation. Outcomes to be measured will include number of completed EBP projects, as well as change over time in EBP knowledge and self-efficacy
