ТАНАТОЛОГИЧЕСКИЕ ПРИМЕТЫ ХРОНОТОПА РОМАНА Л. УЛИЦКОЙ «КАЗУС КУКОЦКОГО»

Categories of time and space are closely linked within a single artwork. Many researchers have devoted their works to the chronotope analysis in literature. This work is devoted to the chronotope study of the novel by L. Ulitskaya “Case of Cucotsky “ through the prism of thanatology and the revealing of time and space characteristics, which help to disclose the mortal aspect. The close loci are dominated in the text, they are similar to the coffin and grave by their shapes and sizes. The novel world of goods and things is fi lled with negative connotations and is associated with mortal attributes (coffin, monument, cross). Time continuum coloration is also executed in negative tones. By slowing down the temporal flow of the novel text the category of ageing and dying, dissolution and wilting are verbalized. A similar effect (slowing down time), the author-narrator reaches in a several ways: 1) the use of literary reception retardation; 2) a thick filling of loci (people, objects), so that movements become impossible and the time stiffens. Besides, the bond between the external chronotope and the inner world of the characters is quite obviously traced in the novel. The hopelessness and despair of the characters is repeatedly revealed from the description of the external space
