Landscape Design for Sustainable Results in Historical Areas: Canakkale Anatolian Hamidiye Bastions

In 1892, the Hamidiye Bastions built by Sultan II. Abdülhamid for the security of the Dardanelles are located on 105 acres of land in the coastal section of the Barbaros neighborhood of Canakkale. The works for the bastions started in 2014 with the transfer of the works from the Ministry of National Defense to the Ministry of Culture. In this context, a landscape project was prepared in cooperation with Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In the project, the sites, which are the historical site where the Hamidiye Bastions are located, were restored and activity areas such as the excursion track, sports field and open-air theater were formed. There are 10 registered bastions (armory) structures in the basement and 9 ball shooting areas located in semi-circular form. Open exhibition areas, theme park (Canakkale Minia), show and activity areas are planned throughout the area. At the end of 2018, the history was revived with the opening of the area which was transferred to the Canakkale Wars History Field Presidency. Visitors can spend both emotional and enjoyable moments while visiting this historic environment. In this project, it is aimed to keep the history of the country which is one of the most important elements that keeps the countries alive and to transfer them to future generations. In the historical area, where people can easily use them in their daily life, structural unity is constructed for curiosity, questioning and understanding during other activities. In this direction, the project aims to keep the national and spiritual values alive by transferring our historical and cultural values to the new generations. In order to achieve this goal, an open-air museum approach that embraces historical and recreational areas has been adopted
