Madarsa refers to higher education and Maktab is generally attached to a mosque. The beginning of Madarsas dates back to the Pre-Islamic era (i.e., sixth century A.D.) when Muslims gathered in mosques for prayers and got their doubts clarified by more knowledgeable persons, who later took the role of teachers or Shaykhs or Ulema' or learned men. Madarsas gradually became an integral part of the mosques. The Al-Azhar University of Cairo was also one such early Madarsa, which is now a famous Modern University. In the same way, there is a chain of Madarsas in India too, who are imparting religious education. This paper looks into the opinion of Madarsa teachers of Hyderabad regarding Teacher Education Programmes in the context of RTE
