Get to know Your Environment: Medicinal California Native Plants

Living conditions in the past few years have changed drastically. The dangers of the time have necessitated far more isolated living, and have forced many to radically slow the pace of their usually chaotic lives. In the wake of these extreme lifestyle changes many have developed the desire to learn about and enjoy their surroundings in ways that have previously gone unappreciated. One way people have begun to appreciate their environment more, is through learning about their native flora. My project focuses on a series of 6 medicinal California native plant species. The 6 carefully researched (in coordination with faculty mentors) and hand painted technical illustrations, can be used to identify each species. These illustrations will be curated alongside their research into an exhibition in coordination with Cal State Fullerton’s Arboretum. Visitors can come and see/read about each species before embarking on an interactive experience to locate and identify them within the arboretum. This interactive learning experience is meant to be enriching in ways simply reading about/researching species cannot be. The exhibition's purpose is to educate explorers in meaningful ways that help them connect with their native environment
