Avifauna of Park Tysiąclecia in Zielona Góra

The paper presents results of a study on the breeding bird community of Park Tysiąclecia, Zielona Góra, in 1997 and 2012, as well as on some bird species which use the park for communal night roosting in winter. In 1997, a total of 102 territories from 15 species were recorded, and in 2012 90 territories from 16 species. e total number of breeding species for both years combined was 21. In 1997, the dominant species were Collared Dove Streptopelia decaocto, Magpie Pica pica, Wood Pigeon Columba palumbus, Blue Tit Cyanistes caeruleus, Great Tit Parus major, Starling Sturnus vulgaris, and Chaffi nch Fringilla coelebs, together accounting for 89.2% of all pairs. Dominant in 2012 were Wood Pigeon, Jackdaw Corvus monedula, Collared Dove, Starling, Great Tit, and Magpie, which accounted for 81.1 % of all pairs. Over the years, Wood pigeon and Nuthatch Sitta europaea increased almost threefold, and the number of Jackdaw pairs grew from zero to nine. In contrast, a strong decline (2-4 times depending on the species) was recorded for the Blue Tit, Great Tit, Magpie and Starling. In winter, a large number of Magpies and Collared doves form night roosts in the park. Night roost flocks were also recorded for Rooks Corvus frugilegus, Jackdaws, and, in early spring, for Wood Pigeons
