Is COVID -19 grounds for Mucormycosis in India: A Breeding Epidemic from an ongoing Pandemic

While India's health care system withstands the massive attack of the second wave of COVID-19, Covid associated Mucormycosis has emerged as an additional challenging threat. Mucormycosis is a life-threatening opportunistic fungal infection that predominantly affects persons with diabetes, neutropenia, extensive burns, chronic illness, and immunosuppression, but recently, it is more prevalent among COVID-19 patients. India has a high burden of Mucormycosis cases compared to developed countries. Understanding Mucormycosis is more important than succumbing to its fear. This review aims to identify the likely causes of soaring Mucormycosis cases in India among patients recovering and recovered from COVID-19.
