The issue of marine forecasts in NIMH is carried out by the numerical wind- wave forecast system for the Black Sea, which was developed and improved through the years. The existing operational marine forecasting system is based on state of art numerical spectral wave models SWAN and WAVEWATCH III (WW3), providing 72-hours wind wave forecast for the Black Sea area. The input data for the system are the wind fields at 10 m over the sea surface provided by the atmospheric model ALADIN, specially set up for the Black Sea. The accuracy of the wind - wave forecast depends largely on the quality of the wind fields and the type of atmospheric models - global or regional. This paper present the results of the evaluation of the wind speed at 10 m ...
