In 2014 GitHub, FigShare, Zenodo, and Mozilla ScienceLab introduced the minting of Digital Object Identifiers (DOI) for software. It has been an important and overdue step. But that's just the first step. This article addresses that the current solution has drawbacks which may become serious problems if not solved in the due course
