Using a Discourse Analytic approach this research sets out to understand the perception and interpretation of gender representation in Turkish television adverts by Turkish Cypriot viewers. In particular it sought to understand the degree of gender sensitivity and generational differences among Turkish Cypriot viewers. A sample cutting across all generational categories was interviewed and their responses analyzed for cues. As a general outcome of our study, it is found out that the perception of gender roles used in advertisement differs depending on the age and gender of people
