The paper deals with the morphological features of the carapace and plastron from Mediterranean tortoises living on the Absheron Peninsula. It was found that the scales of the carapace and plastron of males are larger than those of females. It probably relates to the fact that females form eggs and hatched them during adverse periods. However, for some scales, especially for anal scales of plastron and carapace, the maximum and minimum width of scales in males are more than in females because of the normal mating and fertilizatio
