ANALYSES OF THE ROLE OF ESP AND ESL AT OIL AND GAS SPECIALIZED UNIVERSITY/INDUSTRY

Every year in our country several areas of knowledge are determined, the development of which is given priority. This year, physics and foreign languages became such areas. The policy of openness of Uzbekistan, active entry into the world market, expansion of international cooperation in all areas increase the need for knowledge of foreign languages. Today, teaching in foreign languages is conducted in 25 universities of our country. In 2016, there were only 7 such universities. Over the past years, the number of applicants who have received an international language certificate has increased tenfold. Engineering education requires certain English language skills to enable engineering students to succeed in an academic environment (Tan, 1999; Pendergrass et al., 2001; Sidek et al., 2006; Venkatraman & Prema, 2007). To determine exactly what students need to achieve with English, a needs analysis needs to be carried out. A questionnaire was used to collect data. The results highlighted the importance of English for students in the oil industry and identified gaps, desires and needs of students in relation to English language skills. Pedagogical findings are also provided that can help improve the current English course, taking into account the needs of students
