In this talk I review starbursts, AGN feedback and AGN triggering from the perspective of simulations. I give an overview of the most important results and short-comings of the recent large-scale cosmological galaxy formation simulations (e.g. EAGLE, Horizon, Illustris, Magneticum, MassiveBlack, MUFASA). Furthermore, the role of major mergers in inducing starbursts, metallicity dilution, AGN triggering and quenching is discussed. Finally, I show how studies of the circumgalactic medium of mergers may help revealing the role of merger-induced quenching of galaxies at low redshift
