Department of Chemistry, Jadavpur University, Calcutta-700 032 Manuscript received 12 January 1993 The present review gives a brief introduction to liquid state theories and gives the latest applications of the theory of liquids to alloys, fused salts, polymers and the derivative of potential function operating in liquids. The application of these potential function to obtain phonon frequencies and thermodynamic properties in commercially important liquids like Ge and Te has been described. We also give a novel method of evaluation of the diffusion coefficient and its pressure derivative
