The Philippines, being within the "Pacific Ring of Fire", experiences an average of twenty (20) typhoons every year. In November 2013, Super Typhoons Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) and in December 2021, Super Typhoon Rai (local name: Odette) wreaked massive destruction. The UN OCHA Philippines Typhoon Rai Humanitarian Needs and Priorities Plan published in May 2022 stated that 2.1 million houses were damaged; 425,000 homes were destroyed, and 1,702,428 were damaged. Targeted number of people from the most vulnerable sectors for the Emergency Shelter Program (USD 30M) is 570,000.
