Following the attack in Annecy in June 2023, this article explores the impact of new technologies on public safety. It highlights the benefits of these technologies, such as intelligent video surveillance, in preventing crime. However, the article also highlights the challenges posed by these tools in terms of respect for privacy. Finally, it discusses the need for a balance between security, privacy and social acceptance of security technologies
