CoActD6.1: Open Calls resolution report

Co-designing Citizen Social Science for Collective Action (CoAct) is a Horizon 2020 project which aims to provide and further develop methodologies supporting an understanding of research that can equally be led by academic researchers or citizen groups. As part of that process, CoAct aims to support the United Nations fifth Sustainable Development Goal on gender equality by supporting civic organizations making use of CSS methods for gender-based projects. In this document, we set out a resolution report of the Open Call “Gender Equality”, which application process opened on the 1st of July 2021 and ended on the 30th September 2021. We present first the course of the planning process of the Open Calls as discussed within the CoAct consortium; second the Open Calls processes itself; third an overview of the applications and selected grantees; fourth, we present our communication strategy; and fifth open up for some critical self-reflections of the Open Call process and how to adjust the procedure towards transdisciplinary, transregional and transcultural Open Calls for the future. Therefore, this document might be of interest for individuals and organisations interested in carrying out their own open call, particularly in the areas of CSS and gender equality. Finally, we summarize the work done thus far and point out further activities which are planned for the remaining project time with the grantees. Eventually, grantees were selected for each of the Open Calls on “Gender Equality”. Three projects ranging from the fields of women of Color empowerment, trans-gender and non-binary access to the labor market, and examining the challenges women face in Greece by having to work in a digital environment due to the current pandemic. These grantees recently started their projects under the assistance of a CoAct consortium advisor. Until September 2022, we will respectively guide each other through this process in order to present the project results in December 2022
