Abstract: Carbon dots (CDs) are small carbon-based nanoparticles that have gained significant attention in recent years due to their unique optical, electrical, and chemical properties. In this review, a comprehensive summary of the recent advances in the synthesis, characterization, and applications of CDs are provided. We discuss the different approaches for synthesizing CDs, including top-down and bottom-up strategies, and highlight the advantages and limitations of each method. We also review the various characterization techniques used to analyze the physical and chemical properties of CDs, such as transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Furthermore, the applicati...
