The presence of in pleural space is termed as pneumothorax. Normally the intrapleural pressure shows always negativity but pressure exhibits positivity especially in pneumothorax and this condition result in collapse of lungs. Hypoxia is not seen in closed pneumothorax. In open pneumothorax, the collapse of the lungs results in asphyxia, cyanosis, dyspnea, hypercapnea as well as hypoxia. Different types of collapsed lung are catamenial pneumothorax, iatrogenic pneumothorax, Injury related pneumothorax, primary spontaneous pneumothorax and secondary spontaneous pneumothorax.
