The inevitability of switching to carbon-free energy to withstand the climate change is no longer disputed by anyone today. There is no alternative to this, and the scientific community is forming an appropriate understanding of the need for the development of nuclear energy as carbon free energy source. Solutions are already being discussed at the level of the President and the Government of Russia. In this regard, the article shows that such a solution is possible only based on a new technological platform – two-component nuclear power with the development of technologies of fast reactors with a closed fuel cycle.
