A Scientific, Cultural and Tourism Approach to the Comparison of the Existing Marble in Turkey with the World Marble Mining with the Example of Iscehisar

Since the 1980s there has been an exponential growth in marble demand that has made its exploitation, extraction and conversion into other forms a model for successful economic development on an international scale. However, this sector has reported a detrimental impact on the environment created by low productivity levels, elevated levels of raw material waste and the procedures it uses to remove and replace dimension stone. An analysis of the environmental, social and cultural aspects of the industry from the perspective of their sustainability potential has been presented over the last decade. The findings show the production of pollutants, their discharge into water bodies, dust emission from cutting operations, the presence of occupational hazards, the development of environmental noise and damage to health in Palestine. Similar situations have been reported in the marble industry in Turkey, corrective actions have been proposed in the marble industry to reduce the damage to workers' health and the environment as well as to strengthen the economic aspects. In this industrial context, actions towards sustainability need to be part of the corporate strategy of the industrial sector. The corporate strategy of the industrial sector should have the aims of improving the quality of life, reducing and eradicating poverty and minimizing the environmental impact of this sector. In the 2020 International Resources Panel, the management of mineral resources in the 21st century, guidance publication for a sustainable development of the mining industry, recommendations were made to improve the economic situation of the mining industry, and environmental standards were set to build trust among companies and the public, and to avoid social conflicts .
