CoII and ZnII complexes of Schiff bases derived from fluoroaminothiazole spectral, magnetic and biological studies

The complexes were characterized by elemental {C, H, N and metal) and spectral (UV-Visible and IR) analyses, magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements and evaluation of biological activities. The complexes possess 1 : 2 metal : ligand stoichiometry (ML2) and an octahedral geometry. Various ligand field parameters (B, Dq, β, F2 and F4, F2 and P, v3/v1, v2/v1, v3/v2 and Dq/B etc.) for CoII complexes have been calculated. The complexes exhibit enhanced antibacterial and antifungal activity as compared to the parent ligands. This phenomenon is explained on the grounds of Overtone's concept and chelation theory
