Field study on the effect of lumpy skin disease on blood constituents, immune response and pathological changes on cows

In trial to investigate the effect of lumpy skin disease (LSD) among naturally infected cows on blood constituents, immune response and histopathological changes. The study was carried out on 60 dairy cows, their age ranged from 1-5 years of different sexes. Twenty animals were monitored,(apparently healthy) and considered as control group. Other 20 animals were demonstrated by clinical signs and 20 animals were treated. Blood samples were taken from groups and serum was separated for measuring the total protein, albumin, globulin, liver function (ALT, AST, and alkaline phosphatase) and kidney function (serum ceatinine and blood urea nitrogen). Serum neutralization test (SNT) on 20 serum samples collected from clinically infected cows revealed the presence of LSD specific antibodies with an incidence 70% (14/20). Our findings revealed that, there were significant decreased in total protein, albumin, and globulin. ALT, AST, urea, Ig G, gamma globulin and ceatinine were significant increased. There is no significant difference in concentration of IgM and IgA in animals. Histopathological examination of the suspected samples revealed presence of ballooning degeneration and intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies characteristic of LSD. From this study conclude that LSD causes disturbance in blood constituents, decreased immunity of animals and damaged the skin. So, the animals must be vaccinated for virus and treatment of the secondary bacterial infection accompanied with LS
