There are presented the study results of the submerged welding with pulsating arc technological process. It is shown that this technology makes it possible to reduce the thermal influence zone grains size in the structure by three times, which makes it possible to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the part that bears the main responsibility for the brittle destruction of the welded joint. It is concluded that the decrease in the size of the HAZ grains and the width of the large grain area indicate a change in this area heating and cooling conditions. It is assumed that these changes affect not only the parameters of the thermal cycle, but also the kinetic conditions of austenite decay
