Many pet owners are struggling financially, and the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this problem. Nevertheless, the positive impact of companion animals on people's lives creates a need for support systems to ensure that financial constraints and other barriers do not prevent pet ownership. Various forms of veterinary medicine programs have been developed across the country to overcome these barriers and help underserved communities.
