In the spring of 2012, when this recording was made, there were still three practising Bonpo and several ‘part-time’ apprentices in the Chuk valley. Both Kesang, who conducted this ritual, and his friend Lam Ngoru passed away in the five years during which this research was completed, several others gave up, and now Kesang’s son Tow Tsering is the only (part-time) Bonpo practitioner in the Chug valley.
