Political participation stands for involvement of citizens in political processes, making thereby impact on policy creation, decision making and the action of political actors. Political participation can be improved by information and data availability, as well as establishment of a mutual communication of all stakeholders involved. This paper presents an overview of research on political participation in the information society as well as open data influence on political participation. The selected concepts are still an insufficiently researched area, as evidenced by the analyzed literature, so quantitative indicators measuring the same concepts and their interconnection have been investigated too.
