Status of the Tigray universities (Ethiopia) after nine months of war

The damage to human and material resources of the Tigray universities (Ethiopia) inflicted by nine months of war against Tigray (2020-2021) is presented in a qualitative way. We used interview methods, and only triangulated findings are represented. It is a story of large-scale destructions... Since August 2021, and except for its’ Western zone, the Tigray region is now fully controlled by the elected regional government. At Tigray’s four universities the immediate stress of war and human rights abuse has been relaxed, but new challenges occurred, as the universities’ budgets have been cut, as well as all external communication lines. The universities are in ‘survival mode’
