The models used in weather and climate simulation are large, complex and long-lived. It is then very difficult to adapt them to run well on supercomputers which are quickly evolving and tend to have a lifespan of only five years or so. Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) are one solution to this problem: they enable the model developers to focus on the scientific challenges while the underlying tool chain takes responsibility for achieving good performance on a given supercomputer. This report describes the computational performance obtained through the application of the PSyclone and dusk/dawn DSL toolchains to full atmosphere and ocean models as used for weather and climate studies at various centres.
