Alveolar process is an integral part of the periodontium lending osseous attachment to the teeth. However, being a tooth dependent anatomic structure, it develops in accordance with the developing tooth buds; moreover, it resorbs after tooth loss/extraction over a period of time. This physiologic phenomenon of resorption results in irregular and compromised ridge contour in various dimensions. Though the traditional prosthetic approaches to camouflage ridge defects are not obsolete; implant supported fixed prosthetic therapy is gaining a foothold in dental rehabilitation.
