In the latter part of the 19th century, Sigmund Freud developed a theory that attempted to explain how one may make sense of their dreams. Clinical practitioners and, to a lesser degree, personality theorists have found this theory to be of considerable use in analyzing the claims taken from dynamic theories of personality, and it has shown to be of tremendous benefit in both areas.
