This survey reveals that the status of women has gradually changed since the early 20th century when national movement began to manifest. Women in India are relatively disempowered and are lagging behind men in spite of many efforts. Gender gap exists in education and employment opportunities. Men take the lead in making family decisions. Women’s position have changed a lot nowadays in terms of education and employment. Women's customs are still prevalent in the society. Rural women are more victims of domestic violence than urban women. Gender inequality also exists in political participation, domestic violence, female foeticide, rape, molestation and eviction, unequal wages and gender discriminations are constant issues in the societ...
