Status and Prospects of Cultural Research in the Context of the Ideas of Humanism

The purpose of the article is to identify the features of contemporary cultural research and outline the prospects for their further development in the context of the humanistic discourse in the 21st century. Research methodology. The author has applied principles of dialectical methodology (the principle of comprehensive consideration of the subject, the principle of unity of historical and logical, the principle of development), systematic and comparative methods, which contributed to identifying the specifics of contemporary cultural research, the method of comparative historical analysis, as well as inductive and deductive methods. Scientific novelty. The article has provided the study of the features and prospects of further development of contemporary cultural studies in the context of the humanisation process; clarified the concept of “humanism” and the theoretical developments of the leading neoclassical pragmatist P. Kurtz, who contributed to the formation of the activities of scientists united by a humanistic worldview; stated the current directions of cultural research in Ukraine in the 21st century based on the development of a new humanistic paradigm. Conclusions. Contemporary cultural studies, as well as socio-humanitarian knowledge, perform the most important social function. It is eliminating, filling and compensating for ideological gaps. In turn, the source of cultural gaps is negative identity, which humanising social relations can overcome through humanising knowledge and communication. The appeal to the analysis of contemporary cultural phenomena proves the relevance of scientific research topics and the inclusion of cultural studies in the realities of the present as an essential factor in the formation of a new humanism. At the same time, the research interests of cultural scientists should cover the broadest possible set of phenomena, processes and trends that characterise various aspects of culture in the context of the humanistic paradigm. The specific characteristics of the new humanism determine the importance of activating the further development of the potential principle of cultural influence, the feature of which is the establishment and strengthening of links between substantive and adjective characteristics, as well as the generation of object cultural content and the sustainable formation of self-sufficient entities that form the object content of culture.
